san jose police on the hunt for multiple suspects as they investigate the city's second homicide in just two days. >> we want to send a strong message that it won't be tolerated here in the city of morgan hill. >> a middle school student learns a hard lesson. police arrest him after classmates claim he's a bully. the new legislation being introduced after the death of two mountain lion cubs found in half moon bay. >> right now we take you live outside spanning over san francisco. that is spectacular. get that moonlight shining down on the city by the bay on this friday. we do say friday. january 25th. this is "today in the bay."

>> nothing like extra inspiration on a friday morning. that's a gorgeous shot. it is 4:31. good morning, everybody. i'm jon kelley. >> i'm marla tellez in foraura garcia-cannon. get ready for wet roads out there. meteorologist christina loren we came in at the same time. you dealt with what i saw. >> indeed. a lot of people out there. someone is still howling at that moon. thursday night is a big night. you really want to travel cautiously. you don't know who is around you on the roadways at this time. doppler radar tells the story. it's slick out there this morning. showers are going to continue in the forecast at least for today and for parts of the weekend. i'm going to time it out for you and help you find out when you can get outdoors. first, let's check in with mike. you're already busy this morning. >> you are looking at the south bay. radar showed the mist and drizzle coming through san jose through fremont. slick roadways is what we

encounter coming into the studio here. north of here on 280 an accident cleared but south of there we're looking at south 101 approaching 680. we do have a crash on the shoulder and 880 at the old oakland road off-ramp on the southbound side. another crash there. two crashes. slippery roadways. sounds like a single car involved in each of those. orange highlighted on map shows where you may get fog that may be an issue. back to you. >> mike, appreciate that. new this morning, right now san jose police looking for a group of suspects involved in a deadly stabbing attack. a man was found stabbed multiple times. investigators say four to five men approached the victim and then attacked him just before 8:30 last night. police at this hour still trying to figure out a motive. >> typically in a gang related incident we'll hear some sort of

gang epic that's being uttered. none of our witnesses reported hearing anything like that. although when you have a group of people that attack someone, it certainly sounds that way. we don't know yet. it's too early to tell. >> we can tell you suspects were last seen leaving that scene in a gray colored van and this is the city's second homicide in just two days and marks the third killing of the year in san jose. a morgan hill middle school is sending a clear message to students this morning. bullying will not be tolerated. a 13 year old has now been arrested for allegedly bullying two other 13-year-old students over the past few months. investigators say the student harassed at least two classmates verbally and physically even shooting plastic bbs at them once. a school resource officer warned the boy to stop but he ignored the warning. the arrest is meant to send a strong message when teachers and parents want to keep students safe on campus.

>> if kids could stop for a minute before they hit send, before they say that extra word. before they repeat that extra bit of gossip about how it feels when it comes around to them. >> the student has also been disciplined by the school. because the issue deals with a child, he cannot say exactly how this child was disciplined. according to a pew research center study on cyberbullying, kids between the ages of 14 and 17 experience the most bullying. girls report more online harassment but most teens think bullying happens more offline and in schools. the push to stop cyberbullying picked up speed in 2011 when california's governor signed a new law authored by san jose assembly woman norah comp poos. new this morning, parents in antioch being warned to keep a close eye on their kids after reports of an attempted

kidnapping outside of ofa schoo. a man tried to lure a fifth grade boy into his car. he told the boy he had been sent there by a relative. the boy smartly lly responded don't know you and ran away. the suspect is said to be driving a light blue '70s era car. the oakland teen who killed his adoptive parents last year will be sentenced today. moses cayman was 16 years old when he strangled the couple to death. they adopted moses when he was six. he said he didn't want to deal with them being upset after he got suspended from school for smoking marijuana. san mateo county holding their own gun buyback program this weekend. all are seeing huge turnouts. marin's event was such a huge

success that so many guns were turned in the county ran out of money and then had to issue ious. the san mateo county event will run from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the fairgrounds. gun owners will receive $100 cash for handguns, shotguns and rifles and $200 for assault weapons. police want to stress everyone no questions will be asked about any gun that is turned in. tens of thousands of bay area students may soon be forced to look for a new community college. the head of the state's community college system tells the board of city college of san francisco the college is not too big to fail. ccss is in a financial crisis and on the brink of losing its acrkrecred

acreddidatin o. the school is a long way from getting finances in order. the state of california looking into making changes to deal with wildlife following last month's shooting of two mountain lion cubs. the 4-month-old cubs were fatally shot by a game warden after they were found hiding under a porch back on december 1st. today state senator jerry hill of san mateo introducing a bill requiring fish and wildlife wardens to use nonlethal means when dealing with mountain lions in suburban areas unless there is an imminent threat to human life. this law would authorize the wardens to partner with local wildlife groups or zoos to care for injured or orphaned mountain lions. a benefit concert series continues for injured giants fan brian stow. tim flannery and his band will be performing tonight in mill valley. tickets start at $50. organizers say the money raised will be donated to the stow

foundation. the concert will be held at sweet music water hall in mill valley at 9:00 and then tomorrow the concert series moves to napa and then it wraps up sunday night in santa cruz where they will meet with the family. >> great weekend to help out that stow family. >> it's great. meteorologist christina loren taking a look at that forecast now. showers continue throughout the bay area. >> we're still going to get close to 70 degrees, jon and marla, in some cities. we have a bizarre pattern. might have something to do with this. the moon overhead. look at that. you can actually clearly see the features all of those craters out there on our moon and it's very, very interesting day today. this is why. look at your radar. we have showers coming down. highways are nice and slick this morning. more rain on the way. nonetheless, we are going to end 5 to 10 degrees warmer in some cities than just yesterday. really bizarre pattern happening in the bay area. not just that, it's a spare the

air day even with rain coming through the bay area. that's because we haven't had enough precipitation to clear out our air quality. we're sparing the air today. bizarre to have that and showers on the radar. that is in fact the case. we stop the clock on future cast where we get more activity as we head through 1:00 p.m. today continuing into the evening hours. really kind of a nice day. look at these numbers. 67 degrees in gilroy today. 63 for san jose. and 62 degrees in san francisco. what i can tell you is it's only going to get more interesting as we kickoff your weekend. seven-day outlook in my next report. let's look at your ride as you you can imagine it's been wet out there so probably slow. >> not really slow. light traffic. you should lower the speeds considering the off-ramps as you get off highway speed. lane changing shouldn't be as dramatic. gentle like they advise you in driver's training because of slick conditions through

redwood city courthouse square. the event starts at 11:00. a chance to have a nice start to your weekend. trophies move to daly city at city hall this afternoon at 3:00. the sharks are back and they're on fire. the team won its home opener last night against a phoenix coyotes pushing the record to 3-0 this season. fans got to the tank early trying to make the most of the shortened season. most were all smiles but wish the nhl lockout had not kept their sharks off the ice for so long. >> frustrating that sometimes how i think about it we're the atms for the nhl. >> there was animosity at first but you walk in the tank and there's a huge crowd. lots of kids. lots of excited people. >> the sharks is not the only winners last night. local businesses saw huge surge in customers coming out for some dinner and drinks. last night was the first of a six-game home stand for the

you're watching "today in the bay." welcome back. it's 4:45. the fight to preserve a local oyster company heads to federal court today. the u.s. interior department allowed the drakes bay oyster company's permit to expire in november effectively shutting down this business. now the owner of the north bay company is suing claiming his rights were violated. the owner wants the court to order a temporary injunction allowing him to keep the equipment at the site during the ongoing legal battle.

federal officials say they want the drakes bay area to be allowed to "return to its natural state." apple this morning trying to recover after a so-so earnings report. the tech giant weighed down the entire market yesterday and could have a significant impact again today. for a look at how futures are trading and more, we turn things over to kayla tausche. do we have kayla? we're waiting on kayla tausche right now. we'll check back in with kayla in just a few moments. right now we want to take a look at that forecast. meteorologist christina loren. some raindrops around the bay area. >> here i come to save the day for kayla tausche. good morning to you. you know what? we have showers around. it's not that bad. it feels tropical out there this morning. 53 degrees in san jose for instance. 52 in gilroy. you're at 50 degrees in livermore. look at that. clearly i was not prepared. have some of that lint remover on my dress. looking good for today. showers coming through right now. nothing too heavy.

your highways are nice and slick. give yourself extra time. it's friday. you made it to the weekend. hopefully we'll maintain that friday light tradition that we typically see. i want to stop the clock on future cast and show you what we expect today. we have unsettled pattern with the jet stream to our south. expecting cloud cover throughout the day. we stop the clock at 7:00 a.m. showers should subside at that point. we're going to have thick low clouds generating a steady drizzle. the showers will creep back in between 1:00 and 5:00 this evening. make sure you're ready for that. we stop the clock on future cast getting into saturday. same deal. we'll have these light cells just kind of moving over the bay area all weekend long. i still think you're going to be able to get outdoors for most of the time without having to dodge any showers. you just want to keep in mind you might get caught by a stray shower or two as you head throughout the weekend. this is what is so interesting. we have showers in the forecast for today and it's a spare the air day. very unusual. haven't had enough rain to purify our air quality just yet.

13,825. that's the highest level since october of 2007. we hope for a rally similarly today. we get data on new home sales and earnings from procter & gamble. that's what we're watching for. consumers may score big deals on tvs. that's right before the super bowl. prices on big flat screen tvs are steadily dropping. that's as it becomes cheaper for companies to make them. website decide.com says you could see drops of 10% to 15 on those flat-screen tvs. usually last year's inventory. shopping for a new tv before the super bowl, make sure you get this year's if that's what you're interested in. today marks two years since the start of the revolution that ousted egyptian president hosni mubarak. protesters are demanding the new president step down. we're giving you a live look at

tahrir square where the unrest continues overnight and into today. protesters hurling rocks at police on the square this morning. they chanted at one point "leave, leave" and waved tear gas canisters into the air. demonstrators tried to tear down walls. demonstrators call for a second revolution accusing mohamed morsi of trying to monopolize power. fresh off connecting with the public online, vice president biden taking his push for new control out on the road. biden will lead a roundtable meeting on gun violence in richmond, virginia, today. the discussion will include experts who worked on improving school safety following that 2007 very tech shooting. homeland security secretary janet napolitano and secretary of health and human services kathleen sebelius will also attend today's meeting.

yesterday biden sat in for one of those google plus hangouts holding an online forum outlining the administration's proposals to ban assault weapons and certain ammunition. hundreds of thousands are expected to descend on washington, d.c. for the 40th an march for life. anti-abortion groups march from the national mall to the supreme court. this is video from the march last year. activists are protesting the court's roe versus wade decision made back in 1973. a traffic jam brewing on the information superhighway. smartphones outpaced all other mobile devices in the dual for data. business analysts say network capacity could be in trouble as data use among smartphone users continue to increase. they warn everybody over the next three years connection speeds could slow down to a crawl. analysts blaming the problem on users who just so much rely on smartphones for nearly

how is this for a hard line on overdue library looks. the library is going to extremes to get the late fees paid. they hired a collection agency to go after people with more than $20 in overdue items. the collection agency can alert credit organization if the item isn't returned or paid for and that in return can lower a person's credit score. >> do the crime, you have to pay the fine. it's 4:57 right now. keeping the pace. san francisco's brand new plan for keeping super bowl celebrations from getting out of line. a new and very expensive way to keep kids safe in one east bay school district.
